WASP Submits Memorandum to the Government of India, Calls for National Policy Dialogue on Recognition, Welfare and Social Security for Private-School Educators

New Delhi, India | 9 October 2026

The World Alliance of School Principals (WASP) has formally placed a significant national concern before the Government of India through a Memorandum addressed to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and the concerned Ministries, seeking greater recognition, appropriate social-security support, welfare mechanisms and structured policy dialogue for eligible private-school educators across the country.

Under the powerful national vision “Viksit Educators = Viksit Bharat,” WASP has called for a more inclusive and collaborative approach to strengthening the education workforce, recognising the vital contribution of private-school teachers, principals and educational leaders to India’s human capital development and nation-building journey.

EDUCATION: THE FOUNDATION OF A DEVELOPED INDIA

Education extends far beyond classrooms, textbooks and examinations. It is the foundation upon which a nation’s intellectual strength, social progress, economic development and global competitiveness are built.

Every doctor, engineer, scientist, entrepreneur, administrator and changemaker begins their journey as a student. Behind every such journey stands an educator who nurtures potential, builds character, inspires excellence and prepares young people to contribute meaningfully to society.

Recognising this responsibility, WASP emphasises that educators working across India’s diverse school ecosystem deserve professional dignity, appropriate opportunities for growth and access to welfare mechanisms wherever eligible under applicable policies and statutory provisions.

Private schools and their educators make a substantial contribution to India’s educational landscape. Their role in developing future-ready citizens, strengthening foundational learning and preparing students for emerging opportunities must be reflected in a broader and more inclusive national education dialogue.

KEY DEMANDS AND AREAS OF REPRESENTATION

Through its Memorandum, WASP has outlined eight priority areas for constructive engagement with the Government of India:

1. National Recognition of Private-School Educators

Greater national recognition of eligible private-school teachers, principals and educational leaders as essential contributors to India’s nation-building and human capital development.

2. Social Security and Welfare Support

Exploration of practical and financially sustainable welfare mechanisms relating to retirement security, insurance, healthcare, family support and emergency assistance, subject to eligibility and applicable statutory provisions.

3. Access to Appropriate Government Schemes

Facilitation of access to relevant government welfare and development schemes for eligible educators through transparent, objective and clearly defined criteria.

4. Professional Recognition and National Honours

Development of meaningful opportunities for educator recognition through national programmes, professional awards, fellowships and educational leadership initiatives.

5. Professional Development and Future-Ready Skills

Expanded opportunities for continuous professional learning in areas including the National Education Policy (NEP), Artificial Intelligence, digital education, STEM, cybersecurity, inclusive education, school leadership and emerging technologies.

6. Structured National Policy Dialogue

Establishment of a constructive dialogue involving policymakers, school principals, teachers, school associations, education experts and other relevant stakeholders to identify practical solutions to the concerns of private-school educators.

7. Protection of Professional Dignity

Promotion of fair employment practices, appropriate career progression, professional respect, access to social-security mechanisms and continuous opportunities for development.

8. National Study and Reliable Workforce Data

A comprehensive, evidence-based study of India’s private-school education workforce to understand its composition, employment conditions, professional development needs and welfare-related challenges, thereby supporting informed policymaking.

WASP believes that a robust education system must be supported by policies that recognise the contributions of all eligible educators while respecting existing legal frameworks, institutional responsibilities and the country’s financial priorities.

A CALL FOR PARTNERSHIP, NOT CONFRONTATION

WASP has clarified that the Memorandum is neither directed against government-school educators nor intended as criticism of the Government of India. Rather, it represents a constructive appeal for collaboration, policy dialogue and an inclusive approach to educator welfare.

The organisation recognises and deeply respects the contribution of government teachers and educators in shaping India’s future. Its position is that the dignity, professional growth and welfare needs of eligible educators across different institutional categories merit thoughtful consideration.

The central message is clear: the development of the nation must go hand in hand with the development of its educators.

A developed India requires skilled and confident citizens. Skilled citizens require quality education. Quality education, in turn, depends on empowered, respected and professionally supported educators.

WASP’S HUMBLE APPEAL TO THE GOVERNMENT

Through this Memorandum, the World Alliance of School Principals respectfully urges the Government of India and the concerned Ministries to consider initiating a National Policy Dialogue on Private-School Educators.

The proposed dialogue could explore feasible, accountable and financially sustainable approaches to professional recognition, welfare support, social security and continuous development, with due regard to applicable laws, eligibility requirements and implementation mechanisms.

WASP looks forward to constructive engagement with the appropriate authorities and relevant stakeholders to advance this important issue in the larger national interest.

The organisation believes that strengthening educators is not merely a sectoral concern; it is an investment in India’s children, institutions, workforce and future generations.

As India advances towards the vision of Viksit Bharat, the voices and contributions of educators must remain an integral part of the national conversation.

THE WASP MESSAGE

“We seek partnership, not confrontation.
We seek recognition, not sympathy.
We seek dignity, not charity.”

ONE EDUCATION FRATERNITY.
ONE INDIA. ONE VOICE.

VIKSIT EDUCATORS.
VIKSIT SCHOOLS.
VIKSIT BHARAT.
